The story of the Mazda RX-7 is a true David vs. Goliath story! It was Mazda’s desperate desire to overthrow the reigning super cars with a much smaller, yet powerful, car that led to the genesis of the RX-7.

 

The car’s preliminary aim was to end the superiority of automobile giants like Porche, Ferrari, Nissan etc in the super car sector. This is just what it achieved by winning many endurance races, such as the Bathurst 12 hour endurance event, by beating the best from world over.

 

The Mazda redefined engineering concepts by fitting the RX-7 with a rotary engine. Rotary engines were considered by many to be inefficient, but Mazda proved them wrong by demonstrating that the rotary engine in their cars gave much more power output compared to larger engines with the same fuel economy. The reduced size and the increased power could only add up to one thing – breath-taking performance! Moreover, the RX-7 displays almost 50:50 weight distribution between the rear and front end. This makes the car ideal for driving along fast roads or along winding roads.

 

Many other subtle changes like better cooling system, improved exhaust, fine tuned turbine blade angles etc. have given the Mazda RX-7 additional advantages while still remaining light weight. Although the stock engine only delivers 255 hp, the tuning capacity is mind blowing! Engineers and designers at the Mazda made sure that the prime focus on power but concepts of beauty and elegance were also not diluted! The simple trim, together with dazzling colours, endows a special charm to the RX-7. The interior design has not undergone much change, but the previous steering wheel and air bags have been replaced by better ones. The car also offers many optional upgrades such as the side blinkers, aluminium handbrake lever and gear stick, and aluminium foot pedal etc.
